My Ruin

August 13th, 2010

From now on you can get the MY RUIN song LONG DARK NIGHT as a first appetizer of the upcoming album GHOSTS AND GOOD STORIES FOR FREE!

HERE you can download the song for a short time!

GHOSTS AND GOOD STORIES will be released – due to production-related reasons one week later – on August 27th 2010 in Germany, August 30th in the UK as well as on August 31st in the US and contains 13 tracks of pure heavy honesty that features intimate lyrics, intense music and an identity all its own, proving that like bottle of Whisky or fine wine, MY RUIN just keep getting better with time.

Produced by Mick Murphy and Josh Lynch, ‘Ghosts and Good Stories’ is a concept album centered around scripture inked in blood, sweat and tears, a testament to the love MY RUIN share as a band and as a couple which they continue to create together against all odds and outside forces.

LONG DARK NIGHT describes an insomnia fueled struggle to find the muse lost in sleepless evenings of losing faith, awake with the inability to create. This is a heavy metal torch song if ever there was one, paying homage to those little slices of death and life after midnight where the revelation will not be televised.

Get the song NOW and spread the word: MY RUIN are back and better than ever!

MY RUIN - Ghosts and Good Stories

The first reviews are pouring in and they are smashing!
Here is the gospel according to the press:

“Ghosts and Good Stories is gracefully bone-chilling, filled with teeth-chattering terror, and leaves your unworthy soul melted in a puddle on the floor. A masterpiece! 10/10″
Sara Heitman – Blistering.Com
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

“Pantera attitude, Sabbathesque seventies poison, dirt southern touch, hardcore pride and a courageous tribute to Rollins Band: this is ‘Ghosts and Good Stories’! My Ruin are back with the right dose of high-handedness and brought to us one of the most sincere, shouted loud, sexual and intense records of this year! 8/10”
Simone Sacco – Metal Hammer Italy
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

“This collection of beautifully told stories that unwind and unravel before our ears has plenty of bark and a bite to match. Ghosts and Good Stories is an onslaught from start to finish that doesn’t let up; there’s no room for fluff, no room for floundering and certainly no room for questions. My Ruin are pioneers of their own brand of metal that amalgamates so many different styles it can’t be pigeonholed or categorised.”
Lynsey Wright – Thrash Hits UK
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

“My Ruin have mutated into something truly monstrous in recent years, as the chemistry between Tairrie B and Mick Murphy has evolved and sprouted wicked wings. Ghosts And Good Stories picks up where 2008’s Throat Full Of Heart left off, with an exhilarating barrage of warped stoner metal riffs and blister-razing gutter-punk.8/10”
Dom Lawson – Metal Hammer UK
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

“My Ruin’s sixth official full length album – is their strongest outing since A Prayer Under Pressure Of Violent Anguish from 2000. On the musical front ‘Ghosts And Good Stories’ surpasses everything the band has done thus far.”
Carl Begai – Brave Words Bloody Knuckles
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

“This is a powerhouse of an album. It packs a lot of power both vocally and musically
which is what My Ruin has always done well. 4/5″
Mike Grey – Soundsphere Magazine

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

“Ghosts and Good Stories vocals and riffs are full of power, an intense delivery from an experienced alternative metal band. 8/10″
Hugo Countinho – Creepy Insight.Com

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

“Ghosts and Good Stories their sixth volume literally has to be their most unified, binding, creative, epic whirlwind of pure velocity to date, fact.”
Nickie Hobbs – Devolution Magazine
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

” ‘Ghosts And Good Stories’ is a perfect ode to the kind of grimy, smoke rock the band trade in.”
Darren Taylor – RockSound Magazine
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

“My Ruin have no interest in delivering antiquated chills and thrills. Instead Mick Murphy delivers a Southern-tinged, Sabbath-y guitar assault, over which Tairrie rails against religion, more religion and, most succinctly, the current crop of vapid female pop singers! 7/10”
Kirk Miller –Decibel Magazine

MY RUIN, the Los Angeles based hard rockers featuring vocalist Tairrie B Murphy and multi-instrumentalist Mick Murphy, have revealed the track list of their forthcoming 6th full length album, ‘Ghosts And Good Stories‘ which is set for release on August 20.

The track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Diggin’ For Ghosts
02. Long Dark Night
03. Excommunicated
04. Eyes Black
05. Money Shot
06. Abusing The Muse
07. La Cuidad
08. Suicide Tuesday
09. Saviourself
10. Malediction
11. Repose
12. Turned Out
13. Deathknell

Produced by Mick Murphy & Josh Lynch, ’Ghosts and Good Stories’ is a tale of rock & roll redemption and aural abuse with a conscious. 13 tracks of pure heavy honesty that metal fans can identify with positively featuring intimate lyrics, intense music and an identity all its own, proving that like a bottle of Whisky or fine wine, MY RUIN just keep getting better with time. The new album which was recorded at Entourage Studios in North Hollywood, Ca. & Weapons of Mass Productions in Santa Monica, Ca. showcases the multi-instrumentalist talents of Mick Murphy who not only wrote and co-produced but played guitar, bass and drums.

MY RUIN’s DIY philosophy includes a 25 minute film noir style enhanced video on the CD which was shot by the band and edited by Mick Murphy capturing the visceral power of MY RUIN in the recording studio from the drum room to the ghostly atmospheric vocal booth. When asked about the albums cover art Tairrie said “While I was creating the album artwork, I wanted the feeling to be otherworldly and dark, unlike anything we have done in the past and to set the mood for the music which I think it does. The new cover art is actually a vintage portrait from my family album. It’s a real photograph of my great grandparents in front of their home taken sometime in the early 1900’s which has been slightly altered. I came across the image last year as we were recording our new album and it just sort of spoke to me in a very haunting way. I was drawn to it over and over again while coming up with the albums title which is taken from the lead track ‘Diggin for Ghosts‘.

MY RUIN have announced the following dates for the bands upcoming ‘Ghosts and Good Stories’ Tour with more European dates to be announced soon.

MY RUIN rocks “Have A Drink On Me”

for Metal Hammer Magazine - AC/DC Tribute CD!

::::::::::::::

According to a recent blog posting via Los Angeles based hard rock band My Ruin’s - My Space page, lead screamer and frontwoman Tairrie B has made the following announcement:

“To celebrate the 30th anniversary of AC/DC’s classic “Back In Black” album, Metal Hammer Magazine has put together a kick ass cover mounted tribute CD to accompany their new June 2010 issue which hits stands this week and My Ruin are excited to announce that we were invited to be a part of the high voltage party by covering one of our favorite AC/DC songs of all time…”Have A Drink On Me” which is track #4 on the CD! Mick and I have always been big fans of AC/DC since we were very young, they were a part of the soundtrack to our lives growing up so we’re both honored to be a part of the tribute CD because for us AC/DC represent rock & roll in its purest form. My Ruin has done covers over the years ranging from Black Flag to Nick Cave to Rick Derringer but this was definitely the most fun we have had recording someone else’s song and we even managed to capture our day on film in a video which Mick edited for you to check out so we hope you dig our spin on the song. We recorded and mixed it at Entourage Studios in North Hollywood, Ca. where we spent a few months recording our new album and we had a great time. Mick played all the instruments and he also sang a bit of back up with me and produced the track with our good friend Josh Lynch who also co-produced our new album.”

The AC/DC tribute CD will only be available with this month’s issue of Metal Hammer Magazine so make sure you pick up a copy and don’t miss out on this limited-edition collectable! My Ruin’s new 6th studio album Ghosts and Good Stories is set for worldwide release in August 2010 on Tiefdruck – Musik.

MY RUIN rocks ‘Have A Drink On Me”

MY RUIN rocks ‘Have A Drink On Me”

May 4th, 2010

Los Angeles based hard rock band MY RUIN have revealed their new album cover art and set August 20, 2010 to release their 6th full length studio recording of “Ghosts and Good Stories. Lead screamer Tairrie B & guitarist/husband Mick Murphy have recently celebrated their first anniversary as a married couple and a decade together as a band after taking a year off to write and record.

“We went about making this album in a different way. We decided not to rush things but rather take our time and enjoy ourselves. Not only did Mick write the music and play all the instruments on the new album but he also co-produced and mixed it with longtime friend Josh Lynch at Entourage Studios in North Hollywood and Weapons of Mass Productions in Santa Monica, California. Our recording sessions were very organic and was nice to have the freedom to create and produce the album we wanted to make with no heavy handed pressure or deadlines from the label but instead, lots of support. Tiefdruck Musik owner Daniel Heerdmann really loves and understands our music and band as does everyone at the label which is something we have not felt from a label in a long time and it’s a welcome surprise. While I was creating the album artwork, I wanted the feeling to be otherworldly and dark, unlike anything we have done in the past and to set the mood for the music which I think it does. The new cover art is actually a vintage portrait from my family album. It is a photo of my great grandparents in front of their home taken sometime in the early 1900’s which has been slightly altered. I came across the image last year as we were recording our new album and it just sort of spoke to me in a very haunting way. I was drawn to it over and over again while coming up with the albums title which is taken from the lead track “Diggin for Ghosts”. The album starts off very doomy and ends with a slow spoken word dirge over a musical soundscape that ties it all in from beginning to end but the record as a whole is definitely very brutal and up tempo with lots of rock riffs and my trademark scream vocals.” said Tairrie B.

When asked about the theme of the new album in a recent interview for Devolution Magazine in the UK, Tairrie said “I would say that “Ghosts and Good Stories” is definitely a concept album and one which is quite reflective and apocalyptic on many levels. It didn’t necessarily start off that way but it eventually began to write itself into a bit of an intimate portrait of our life as a band in and around the city of Los Angeles. Over the years religious imagery has played a huge part in my lyrical content and I have often left things open to interpretation but with this record it has gone from being more of a cryptically metaphorical aesthetic to highly confrontational in some instances.

MY RUIN
Studio Update #2
:::::::::::::

MY RUIN — the Los Angeles based rock duo featuring lead screamer Tairrie B and husband/guitarist Mick Murphy — have been hard at work in the studio last month recording its sixth full-length album, “Ghosts and Good Stories”, for an early 2010 release via Tiefdruck-Musik.

Commented Mick: “I’ve recently finished recording all of the guitar tracks which has been a lot of fun, and a very relaxed and productive experience working with Josh Lynch [who is co-engineering and co-producing this with me]. He is a true professional with a trained ear, strong production skills and a great sense of humor. I’ve known Josh for over a decade because we both worked at a Hollywood recording studio back in the late ‘90s. We had a blast tracking guitars and got some sick and smokin’ tones. Once we started recording we just clicked in and worked really quickly and efficiently together. Entourage is a very high quality old school studio with all the right gear to get the warmest and biggest sounds which is exactly what we’re looking for.”

MY RUIN Mick Murphy in the studio

“I used all my own gear this time and I’m really happy with the sounds we’ve got so far on everything. The main guitars I used were my 78 Cherry Burst Gibson RD Artist and my 07 Black BC Rich Mockingbird Special but I also used my 71 Cherry Burst Gibson Les Paul and 07 White BC Rich Mockingbird Special on some solos. I ran my Mesa Boogie Stilleto Trident 150 watt head through the top Marshall 4×12 cab from my stack [which I’ve had for 18 years and still sounds incredible] on the 4 ohm setting and cranked up the fluid drive channel and went from there. I also used the Korg AX3000G floor processor as my tuner and for a little added distortion, overdrive, fuzz, wah, phaser & echo. I’m very excited about the new material and we have 12 original songs plus one cover that make a strong 13 track record with lots of good loud rock and a few unexpected surprises. Once the bass is finished soon, Tairrie will be starting her vocal tracking and giving
the songs her fire on that side of things. In the meantime, she’s been there with me documenting and bringing her energy to the sessions and we’ve both been really enjoying ourselves. It’s great to finally be making the record we’ve always wanted to make and we’re looking forward to working with our new label who are as excited as we are about the new album.”
